Step by Step: Why the 2026 Worldwide Walk Matters
On August 7, 2026, families, friends, and supporters around the world will walk 3 km together for one powerful reason: to support the Brighter Hope Foundation community. The Worldwide Walk is more than just a virtual event—it’s a celebration of strength, connection, and hope for families affected by Generalized Arterial Calcification of Infancy (GACI) and Autosomal Recessive Hypophosphatemic Rickets Type 2 (ARHR2).
This year’s walk carries a bold message: no one should have to face a rare diagnosis alone.
Why We Walk
To Raise Funds for our Financial Assistance Program
GACI and ARHR2 are ultra-rare conditions that currently have no cure. Your donations and fundraising help us to help families affected by ENPP1 deficiency or ABCC6 deficiency to attend the 2026 Patient & Family Conference, meet expert doctors and researchers, and connect with a community that truly understands their journey with GACI and ARHR2.
To Connect Families Around the Globe
For many families, a rare diagnosis comes with isolation. You may never have met another person with GACI or ARHR2 in your country. The Worldwide Walk bridges those distances. Whether you’re walking in your neighborhood, local park, or living room, you’re part of something bigger. You’re walking in solidarity with families from across the world who understand your journey.
To Spread Awareness
Rare diseases are often misunderstood or overlooked. By walking, sharing your story, and participating in local fundraising, you’re helping to shine a light on conditions that deserve attention. Increased awareness leads to faster diagnoses, better care, and a stronger, more informed community.
What to Expect
The 2026 Worldwide Walk is designed to be flexible and inclusive. There’s no set location—walk wherever and however you’d like.
- Choose your own 3 km route on or around August 7th
- Walk solo, with family, or as part of a team
- Fundraise and share your page to help raise money for research and resources
- Share your walk online to raise awareness in your own community
Did You Know?
Babies born with GACI face a survival rate of only 50%. For those who survive, many – specifically those with GACI caused by ENPP1 Deficiency – go on to develop ARHR2, a progressive condition that significantly affects bone development, growth, and mobility. Beyond these early challenges, children and adults living with ENPP1 or ABCC6 deficiency may also experience a wide range of complications, including seizures, strokes, chronic fatigue, persistent bone and joint pain, hearing loss, and dental issues.
Living with GACI or ARHR2 is not just a medical journey, it’s an emotional and financial struggle that families navigate every day. Supporting the Worldwide Walk helps expand awareness efforts that lead to earlier diagnoses and better care.
Your Support Matters.
Whether you’re a caregiver, a patient, a medical professional, or a friend of the cause, your steps make a difference.
“I’m walking 3km on August 7th, 2026, to raise awareness and support for those living with GACI and ARHR2 – two rare, lifelong conditions that deserve more attention, research, and resources.”
“We are fundraising so that babies born with GACI have a better chance and surviving patients can have a better quality of life.”
This spirit of unity is at the heart of Brighter Hope Foundation’s work. When you walk, you’re not just raising funds, you’re lifting up a global community that is often unseen.
